Brexit means ‘unprecedented and complex’ challenge for UK law

Thursday's vote by the UK electorate to leave the EU has created an unprecedented and complex range of legal issues and the solicitor profession is already firmly focused on finding solutions, the Law Society of England and Wales said today.

Thursday’s vote by the UK electorate to leave the EU has created an unprecedented and complex range of legal issues and the solicitor profession is already firmly focused on finding solutions, the Law Society of England and Wales said today.

The Society’s president Jonathan Smithers said:

‘We did not take a stance on whether Britain should leave or remain in the EU – that was because we are a professional body and our membership has a diverse range of views. Instead, we sought to provide facts to inform the debate with a focus on the impact on legal services.’
