Lexcel version 6.1 launched

01 Aug 2018
The latest update to the Lexcel Standard, version 6.1, comes into effect from 1st November 2018 with new requirements around GDPR and other regulations

Lexcel version 6.1 was launched in June 2018 with the purpose of providing a framework for legal practices to help implement measures in respect of the following Regulations and Acts:

  • The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679);
  • The Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017;
  • The European Union Financial Sanctions (Amendment of Information Provisions) Regulations 2017
  • The Criminal Finances Act 2017

Changes have been made to the core Lexcel Standards for legal practices and in-house departments in England and Wales (now version 6.1) and for organisations accredited against the International Standard (now version 5.1).

Visit the Law Society Website to view the new standard and read further information about the changes to the current version.

All Lexcel assessments and Annual maintenance Visits taking place from 1st November 2018 will be against this new Standard. In order to meet the requirements of Lexcel 6.1 and 5.1, legal practices should begin to implement additional measures now to ensure these can be embedded into your practices in time for your next visit.

One of the new requirements in Lexcel version 6.1 is that clients should be accredited against Cyber Essentials.

Southern ITInspiring is working in partnership with approved Cyber Essentials certification body Southern IT to help you achieve Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essential Plus accreditation.

We will be able to provide support at various levels depending on your requirements, to assist your firm with its Cyber Essentials Assessment.
